Now Available: 2023 Data

November 27, 2024 by Chandler West

Data season is here! At IMPLAN, we mark the holiday season with our annual data release. That means 2023 data has arrived in IMPLAN Cloud.

Each year, IMPLAN’s economists work diligently to compile the latest data from a wide range of sources, fill in gaps in the raw data, balance the data across all geographic levels, and more, empowering users to make their analyses more accurate and timely.

What's New?

Integration of the Latest BEA Benchmark Input-Output Tables: The updated Benchmark tables, released every five years by the BEA, provide the foundation for IMPLAN’s annual U.S. datasets. These tables bring critical updates to industry production patterns, commodity trade, and spending structures, ensuring the most accurate reflection of the U.S. economy’s structure.

Changes to Industry Classifications: Several industries have been combined or redefined to align with updated NAICS codes. For example, sectors like apparel manufacturing and electric power generation have been refined to reflect more accurate industry dynamics, increasing the total number of IMPLAN industries to 528.

Improved Farm Employment Estimates: Enhanced methodology adjusts for price fluctuations, ensuring employment estimates reflect physical production rather than commodity price changes. Additional data sources, including BEA REA projections and the Census of Agriculture, provide a more complete picture of farm-sector employment.

Census of Agriculture Data: New Census data enhance farm-sector analyses, filling gaps in state and county crop production data. This improves estimates for farm employment and the distribution of agricultural production across regions.

The economy is always changing, so it is critical to use the latest data year to ensure the most accurate results for your economic impact analysis. To learn more about what changed this year, check out the 2023 Data Release Notes.
